What is special about our Tamari?

Tamari Soy Sauce - Gluten Free

Organic Tamari

with some text from our supplier, San-J

Made with 100% whole soybeans and no wheat, San-J Organic Tamari Gluten Free Soy Sauce has a richer and milder taste than regular soy sauce. It's the natural fermentation process that gives San-J this depth in flavor.

Soy sauce and its many forms are found widely throughout Asia, but tamari is specifically a Japanese form of soy sauce, traditionally made as a byproduct of miso paste. Side note: we Gorilly Goods founders made our own miso for many years and even had custom miso pots created from clay, by our good friend Mark Skudlarek, at Cambridge Woodfired Pottery. His wife, Gaea, is the graphic artist.

Our custom miso pot - was used for making a soy paste that results in the by-product, tamari.... now we use it as a crock for making homemade kimchi

The differences in production give each sauce its own unique flavor. Tamari has a darker color and richer flavor than the common Chinese soy sauce people may be more familiar with. It also tastes more balanced and less salty than the sometimes harsh bite of soy sauce, which makes it the best choice for our Savory Seeds and Greens "things".

We just got our first 55 gallon drum of this "good stuff" in.....looking forward to making it into a rain barrel for our house once we empty it.....so keep eating those Savory things! :)

future rain-barrel :)
