Gorilly Goods Pack a Punch!

By: Scott Jasper

Gorilly Goods,

I just returned from a 1 week backpack trip in Colorado. My partner, from Madison, brought a couple packs of Reallygoods to share. I’m an engineer and I watch the weight of all my gear (and food) down to the tenth of an ounce. I also track total calories and calories/ounce for food, to ensure that I’m consuming enough calories on the trail. Reallygoods have broken the ceiling (!) of my “trail snack” chart:

item / calories per package / calories per ounce in package

  • Gorilly Goods – raw fruit & nut thing 340 170
  • Clif Builder’s 20g Protein Bar – chocolate peanut butter 270 113
  • Clif Builder’s 20g Protein Bar – vanilla almond 270 113
  • Lara bar – chocolate coconut chew 240 133
  • Clif Bar (Original) – coconut chocolate chip 240 100
  • Clif Bar (Original) – chocolate brownie 230 96
  • Hy-Vee Energy Bar – fudge brownie 230 119
  • Hy-Vee High Protein Bar – peanut butter 210 119
  • Clif Dipped Mojo Dipped Bar – chocolate peanut 200 126
  • Clif Dipped Mojo Bar – mixed nuts 200 126
  • Honey Stinger Protein Bar – dark choco coconut almond pro 200 133
  • Lara bar – chocolate chip brownie 200 125
  • Honey Stinger Bar – rocket chocolate 200 114
  • Nature Valley Chewy Protein Bar – peanut, almond, dark choco 190 134
  • Clif Dipped Mojo Bar – mountain mix 190 119
  • Clif Dipped Mojo Bar – white chocolate macadamia 190 119
  • Honey Stinger Protein Bar – choco peanut butta pro 190 127

In terms of energy/calories per ounce, Gorilly Goods, at 170 cals/oz, blows away the next closest trail bar (Nature Valley Chewy Protein Bar), at 134 cals/oz – that’s 27% more cals/oz!

FYI. Keep up the good work.
